Wyoming has another winner. A Wheatland retailer sold a Powerball® ticket worth $20,000, making it the second largest win in Wyoming yet following Ft. Bridger resident Richard York’s $25,000 Mega Millions® ticket last Tue., Jan. 20.
In the Sat., Jan. 24, Powerball drawing, a lucky WyoLotto player bought the Power Play and matched all but one number, turning their initial $10,000 winnings into $20,000. The winner matched 4 out of 5 numbers as well as the Powerball, narrowly missing the jackpot. That $1 PowerBall ticket with $1 PowerPlay bought at Quality Discount Liquor, located at 2334 North 16th Street in Wheatland turned into $20,000 big ones.
With no one in the nation correctly matching all six winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing, the Powerball® jackpot has grown to an estimated $261 million with a cash payout of $179.1 million. The next drawing is Wednesday night, increasing players’ excitement as they head to the nearest retailer for a chance to be the first to hit the Powerball jackpot in 2015. Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:59 p.m. Ticket sales close at 7:59 p.m.
WyoLotto players and retailers hope to see more Wyoming winners like these with Cowboy Draw®, Wyoming’s own draw game, set to launch March 15. With the new game, the state will see more high-dollar winnings at WyoLotto retailers with jackpots starting at $250,000.
The jackpot for Mega Millions® is now an estimated $25 million. Mega Millions tickets cost $1 for each play, plus $1 for the Megaplier. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 9 p.m. Ticket sales close at 8 p.m.
The winning numbers for the Jan. 24 Powerball drawing were 16, 19, 20, 29, 33, and 10 with a Power Play of 2x. So far, 190,908 WyoLotto players have won a total of $1,025,439 since the launch of the lottery in August 2014.
